79% of NRIs Are Self-Made Billionaires—Who Topped the 2024 List?

In 2024, a staggering 79% of the richest Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) have achieved their
billionaire status through self-made means, as highlighted by the latest Hurun India Rich List.
Leading the pack is Gopichand Hinduja, whose family amassed a fortune of ₹192,700 crore,
making them the wealthiest NRIs globally. Other notable names include LN Mittal with
₹160,900 crore and Anil Agarwal, recognized for his global mining contributions, with a net
worth of ₹111,400 crore.


The United States has emerged as the most preferred destination for these wealthy NRIs,
housing 46 individuals from the list. The UAE and the UK also remain popular choices. This
year, the Hurun India Rich List expanded significantly, showcasing 1,539 ultra-wealthy
individuals, with a remarkable 272 new entries, signaling robust growth in global Indian
wealth.


These NRIs have shown an incredible ability to create and sustain wealth in diverse sectors,
ranging from technology and finance to real estate and mining. Their stories of success are
not just tales of wealth but of resilience, innovation, and an unyielding drive to succeed in a
competitive global market.
