A major ticketing scandal has surfaced in Mumbai, where over 30 individuals have been implicated in reselling Coldplay concert tickets on the black market. BookMyShow, the official ticket partner for the highly anticipated Coldplay concert, took swift action after receiving reports of inflated ticket prices being sold through unauthorized channels. The British rock band is set to perform in January 2025, and tickets, originally priced affordably, have allegedly been resold for as much as ₹3 lakh.

The scam was exposed when BookMyShow lodged a formal complaint at Vile Parle Police Station, providing evidence that 27 mobile numbers were being used to market these tickets on social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Instagram. Buyers were lured into paying exorbitant amounts, with the possibility that many of the tickets sold were fraudulent.

BookMyShow had previously warned fans not to purchase tickets from third-party sources, emphasizing that tickets sold outside of the official platform might not be legitimate. Despite the warning, reports surfaced of individuals being approached through social media, with promises of securing tickets at inflated rates. Two people had even emailed the ticketing company, seeking to book the maximum number of tickets, claiming to have already collected money from others.

Authorities responded quickly, booking unidentified individuals under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 318 (cheating) and 319 (cheating by personation), along with section 66C (identity theft) under the IT Act. Mumbai’s police are now investigating the extent of the scam, with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) already involved in the probe. Ashish Hemrajani, CEO of BookMyShow’s parent company Big Tree Entertainment, has been summoned in connection to the case but is yet to appear before investigators.

This incident has raised concerns among concertgoers and exposed the risks of purchasing tickets through unofficial channels. With thousands of fans eagerly awaiting Coldplay’s concert, it’s vital to stay cautious and buy only from verified sources to avoid being scammed.
